Starting the Day with Purpose
Each day begins in the morning with the peaceful backdrop of mountain views. Students engage in morning wellness activities that set a positive tone for the day ahead. The morning routine includes personal care and hygiene, followed by mindfulness or meditation exercises that help center and ground our teens. A nutritious breakfast in our dining hall provides both sustenance and community connection, and the morning wraps up with a community meeting where we set intentions for the day ahead.
Academic Excellence at Bearwallow Academy
Throughout the day, students attend our licensed and accredited Bearwallow Academy. We maintain small class sizes, with no more than eight students per class, ensuring that each student receives the individual attention they need. Our licensed teachers provide live instruction in a supportive learning environment, following a curriculum aligned with North Carolina standards. Educational therapy is integrated when needed, ensuring that academic progress continues alongside emotional growth.
Growth and Discovery
We blend therapeutic work with engaging activities throughout the day. Individual therapy sessions provide focused attention on personal goals, while group therapy helps develop specific skills and address common challenges. Our adventure therapy program makes full use of our mountain campus, providing opportunities for personal growth through supervised challenges. Students also engage in various recreational activities, from hiking and sports to art, while developing essential life skills through structured programming.
Community and Reflection
As day transitions to evening, our focus shifts to community building and personal reflection. Students share family-style dinner, complete homework assignments, and participate in group activities that build social skills. The evening includes time for personal reflection and journaling, concluding with a group wrap-up meeting and a structured bedtime routine that promotes healthy sleep habits.

Our 140-acre mountain campus serves as more than just a backdrop – it’s an integral part of the therapeutic experience. Students have access to miles of hiking trails, outdoor recreation areas, and peaceful spaces for reflection. Mountain streams and ponds provide natural gathering spots, while our gardens offer opportunities for hands-on learning and growth. The adventure course elements challenge students physically while building confidence and trust.
